Yonatan Duega

Yonatan Duega is from Alexandria, Virginia but was born and raised in Ethiopia. He is currently studying Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech, a place he chose for its strong sense of community, inclusivity, and family-like atmosphere. These values resonate deeply with him, shaping his academic pursuits and personal growth throughout his journey. Outside the classroom, Yonatan says he finds solace and strength in sports like running and soccer, or simply enjoying quality time with friends. This passion not only keeps him physically active but also fosters a strong social bond with his fellow Hokies, infusing a sense of discipline and focus into every aspect of his life.
Yonatan believes that Virginia Tech has a supportive environment that has inspired him to thrive academically and personally. Also, as he prepares to graduate with a degree in industrial and systems engineering this May, he says he is excited to kickstart his career journey at The Boeing Company.
Beyond personal success, his ambition is to empower others to reach their goals. Whether through sharing his experiences to mentor others or creating an environment where individuals can recognize and unleash their potential, he is committed to making a positive and far-reaching impact. He firmly believes that true achievement lies in the impact we have on the lives of others. With this belief at heart, he is also dedicated to making a difference that leaves a lasting and positive mark on the world.
