Mary Oloyede
Graduate Assistant
Mary Oloyede is a Graduate Assistant for the Tutoring Program in the Student Success Center. Mary is a master's student in the department of Science Education, where she is currently studying Curriculum and Instruction, with a concentration in science education at Virginia Tech. She received her bachelor’s degree in chemistry education from Federal University Oye-Ekit, Ekiti State, Nigeria, in 2021. Mary is interested in improving students understanding of science through various scientific processes, including observation, investigation, discussion, critical and creative thinking, probing questions, and encouraging scientific literacy through her cutting-edge teaching methods, fostering understanding of subject content and the transfer of knowledge across various contexts. As part of her program, Mary is currently teaching at Blacksburg Middle School, where she is embarking on an action research project, centered around providing effective learning experiences and engagement with classroom instruction for English language learners.
In her current position as a Graduate Assistant at the Student Success Center, Mary is excited about supporting the tutoring program by collaborating with the Lead Tutors and Tutors in providing long-lasting tutoring experience for students and providing a holistic approach to helping students meet their academic, personal, and career goals. She is excited about using her teaching experience in advancing the program through various strategies.
In her spare time, Mary enjoys writing, teaching, watching movies, and making new friends.
