May 2024 Academic Outstanding Student

Joshua Streat is a freshman studying Computer Engineering with an overall GPA of 3.66. He comes from Chesapeake, Virginia, where he lives with his parents and older brother. Joshua says the best part about being a Black student at Virginia Tech is making connections and being able to see so many familiar faces around the campus. His goal after graduation is to have a lucrative job where he can be himself and enjoy coming to work every day.

Joshua is a member of the Virginia Tech Ujima Living Learning Community, where he was nominated as Ujima Homecoming King and is responsible for planning community service events for fellow Ujima students. He is also active in the Virginia Tech National Society of Black Engineers and will be a member of the executive board with the role of Co-Public Relations Chair next semester. He will also be a CEED Peer Mentor next semester. Joshua is also involved in the Virginia Tech Student African American Brotherhood and the Honors College. Joshua’s role model is his mother because she never gives up and motivates him to be the best version of himself. During Joshua’s free time, he enjoys playing the alto saxophone, creative writing, meeting new people, and listening to music.
