Tre Ridgway-Davis

February 2023 Academic Outstanding Student

Tre Ridgway-Davis is from Fairfax, Virginia. He is currently a sophomore in the college of science majoring in cognitive-behavioral neuroscience and psychology with a strong passion for promoting the mental health of his community. Tre is with a GPA of 4.0. He says the best thing about being a black male student at Virginia Tech is the sense of belonging he feels within the black community in Blacksburg. He believes that there are resources available, or people to talk to who would understand his viewpoint as a person of color trying to navigate through an increasingly divided culture. Tre’s post-Virginia aspiration is to apply to graduate schools to further his education in the fields of psychoneurology, psychotherapy, or industrial psychology. His personal dream is to find happiness in a career where he is able to help aid in the improvement of other people’s lives and more specifically, he wishes to be able to provide people with the tools they need to succeed.

Tre is currently a part of the Thrive Living-Learning Community and holds a part-time position at the office of Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD). He says Trevor Noah is his model. As a young, black male, he has often struggled to find people in the spotlight that he feels he can look up to on a greater-than-superficial level, but he believes Trevor Noah is one of the few exceptions. What Trevor Noah brought to The Daily Show was intellect, charisma, and humor through the lens of a multiracial black man in modern-day America. Being a multiracial black man himself, Trey finds it empowering to see someone capture the attention of millions of people by being no more than himself on international television. During his free time, he typically enjoys hanging out with friends, playing basketball at McComas, or keeping up with the latest anime drops.
