Jeremiah Sarpong

February 2024 Academic Outstanding Student

Jeremiah Sarpong is a first-generation Ghanaian American student majoring in Clinical Neuroscience. Since his youth, Jeremiah has harbored a fervent passion for working with people and enhancing his grasp of medicine. To pursue this passion, Jeremiah has delved deep into neuroscience research, particularly focusing on the mechanisms of Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) and Drug Addiction. Throughout his time at Virginia Tech, he has undertaken internships at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and WVU School of Medicine. In addition to his academic pursuits, Jeremiah has played a pivotal role in campus leadership as the Director of Live Entertainment for the Black Student Alliance. In this capacity, he spearheads the organization of major student-run events, including the homecoming concert and spring concert.

Jeremiah aspires to be a pioneer in medicine, aiming to address healthcare disparities among minorities and rural communities. Moreover, he seeks to assume leadership roles wherever he goes, striving to make a meaningful impact. Jeremiah finds great fulfillment in being a black male at Virginia Tech, as it affords him the opportunity to pave the way for the next generation of black males. He believes that mentorship and creating pathways for the success of black men are among his most significant objectives. To work towards this, he is a School of Neuroscience Student Ambassador where he's able to work with incoming high school students.
