John Lynch

December 2023 Academic Outstanding Student

John Lynch is a senior at Virginia Tech studying cybersecurity management and analytics and with a CGPA of 3.34. He says the best thing about being a black male student at VT is the opportunity to share different perspectives with other students from other background. John’s post Virginia Tech aspiration is to begin a career where helping people becomes a priority. His personal and career dream is to use his degree to aid people who are struggling with technology and prevent them from being victims to malicious people. By studying cybersecurity, he can see areas where people may be vulnerable and with his computer science minor, he hopes to create software to close these vulnerabilities and keep people safe.

John is involved in the cyber security club, National Society of Leaders and Scholars, the Bowling Club, and he has previously been the secretary of the National Society of Black Engineer’s undergraduate council and was a mentee in the Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Diversity. John says that Mark Dean is his role model. He believed Mark Dean was a genius when it comes to technology, and his work at IBM lead to color PC monitors.

Although his free time is quite limited due to school, he tries to find time to relax and sit down to play games with friends or try out new recipes in the kitchen.
