2020 BMEN Awards

The mission of BMEN is to design and implement unique programs that empower, unite and celebrate the success of Black men at Virginia Tech. This year, we recognized and celebrated individual’s outstanding accomplishments and contributions that assist with the advancement of Black male success on our campus.

BMEN Student of the Year Award
This award recognizes an undergraduate student for their character, service and outstanding contributions, and academic achievements. Nominee must be full-time student in good standing and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

  • Winner: Jordan Gittens

BMEN Faculty/Staff of the Year Award
This award recognizes a faculty or staff member who has demonstrated a commitment to empowering African American male students to reach their fullest potential.

  • Winner: Freddy Paige

BMEN Ally of the Year Award
This award recognizes an individual for their advocacy and demonstrated commitment to enhancing the campus life or college experience of African American male students at Virginia Tech.

  • Winner: Latanya Walker

BMEN Excellence in Service Award
This award recognizes a community member or community organization who has demonstrated a commitment to excellence in supporting and bringing about a positive change in the Black Male community at Virginia Tech.

  • Winner: Anthony Harvey

BMEN Leadership Award
This award recognizes a community member who has demonstrated exceptional leadership through their involvement and impact on the lives of Black Male students at Virginia Tech.
