Awards

At the 9th Annual Uplifting Black Men Conference, the Black Male Excellence Network will be hosting an awards ceremony during the concluding portion of the event. During this session, we will award students for their outstanding achievements in leadership, service, and scholarship. Also, we are awarding a faculty, administrator, or staff who champions black male student success. To make the awards ceremony memorable and impactful, especially for our students, please nominate a student and faculty/administrator/staff for one of the awards below. Then, on February 24, 2024, come celebrate the recipients at the conference.

The Tommy Amal Student of Excellence Award For Leadership and Service honors one of BMEN’s former Assistant Directors, Tommy Amal. The recipient of this award demonstrates not only exceptional leadership but commitment to service, mentorship, and empowerment of Black male students. Moreover, the selected student will receive a monetary gift and become our first student keynote speaker at the 10th Annual Conference in 2025. Eligible students must be juniors, seniors, or recent alum (graduated within the last two years).

Tremayne “Trey” Waller Advocate of Students Award honors Trey Waller, who has demonstrated unwavering dedication to and advocacy for the success, development, and empowerment of black male students at Virginia Tech and beyond. The recipient will be awarded and acknowledged before the university. Eligible recipients must be an administrator, faculty, staff, or alumni.

The deadline for submission of nominations is February 2, 2024! If you have any questions about the nomination process, please email Patrick Wallace or Eric Glenn.
