Tutoring at Virginia Tech
Tutoring is free course-specific support for students who want to improve their academic performance, no matter where they start. Our friendly tutors are undergraduate students who have successfully completed the courses they support at Virginia Tech. There are three easy ways to meet with a tutor.

Student Success Center Tutoring
The Student Success Center has supported student learning for over 20 years. Our tutoring program is certified at the highest possible level by CRLA, recognizing our excellence in tutoring practices and training. Our new location, the second floor of Gilbert Place, offers beautiful study areas and private appointment rooms. Our all-undergraduate staff undergoes a rigorous selection and training process. They all come recommended by Virginia Tech faculty, and tutors have taken the courses they support at Virginia Tech. They are friendly, non-judgmental, and truly want to help. You can meet with a tutor by scheduling individual appointments through Navigate.
SSC Tutoring Program Awarded Highest Possible Certification
The College Reading & Learning Association's (CRLA) International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) recognizes our outstanding practices in tutor hiring, training, and evaluation. Student Success Center tutors can become individually certified as Level I Certified Tutor, Level II Advanced Certified Tutor, and Level III Master Certified Tutor. Meet with CRLA-certified tutors by making an appointment through Navigate or attending a weekly drop-in session.
A great way to see a Student Success Center tutor quickly is to attend weekly drop-in tutoring for some of our most popular courses. No appointment necessary! Come prepared with questions or material to work on, and a tutor will be there to help.
Virginia Tech has proudly partnered with Knack, a platform enabling students to book course-specific peer tutoring services.
Knack Tutors are fellow students who have previously aced the courses they offer assistance in. Tutoring is completely free, and sessions can take place in-person or online. View the Knack platform.
