Tutoring Across Campus
The Student Success Center offers individual tutoring, group drop-in tutoring, and on-demand tutoring through Knack for a variety of Virginia Tech courses. At times though, you may find that the Student Success Center does not offer the course-specific support you need. Keep in mind that there are many different ways to get help! You can visit faculty or TA office hours or consider these department level tutoring resources:
Additional General Tutoring Resources
Comm Lab: The Comm Lab provides free consultation on any areas of the speech making process.
Writing Center: The Writing Center offers free synchronous and asynchronous tutoring support for all writing-based assignments across Virginia Tech’s programs.
Departmental Tutoring
These resources are categorized by department. Most of the tutoring options are free, however those with a fee associated are marked with an asterisk (*).
Aerospace and Ocean Engineering (AOE): The AOE chapter of Sigma Gamma Tau (SGT) provides virtual tutoring for some AOE courses. To get connected with a tutor, email SGT. In your email, indicate which course and/or concept you need assistance with.
Biological Systems Engineering (BSE): BSE* offers peer tutoring with timing coordinated between tutor and student. For more information, please email Priscilla Baker. Tutoring may be provided at an additional cost.
Chemistry (CHE): The American Institute for Chemical Engineers at Virginia Tech offers peer tutoring in all 2000- and 3000- level chemistry courses. Peer tutoring is available by walk-in on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE): Chi Epsilon Tutors are CEE undergrad students who volunteer through Chi Epsilon Honor Society and offer tutoring sessions virtually or in-person. Tutoring becomes available mid fall semester pending availability of tutors.
Construction and Engineering Management (CEM): Construction Engineering and Management conducts ‘Tutoring Tuesday’ each Tuesday from 5:30–6:30 p.m. on Bishop-Favrao Hall's third floor for CEM and BC courses, as well as other courses taken by students in the program including Statics and Mechanics of Deforms. Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE): Private ECE* peer tutors can be requested through the department’s listserv or through their advisor. Tutoring may be provided at an additional cost.
Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE): Private peer tutoring* Email Jacob Kerstiens to arrange peer tutoring in ISE courses. Tutoring may be provided at an additional cost.
Mining and Minerals Engineering (MINE): Private peer tutoring* Email Michelle Crotto to arrange peer tutoring in MINE courses. Tutoring may be provided at an additional cost.
Modern and Classical Languages and Literature (MCLL): Spanish tutoring offers peer tutoring in all 1000-3000 SPAN courses. Email Landen Furr
Tutoring for Specific Populations
Student Athlete Academic Support Services (SAASS): Tutoring services for all Virginia Tech student athletes only. SAASS provides individual and group tutoring appointments on-site and in-person, 6 days a week in a wide variety of subject areas with CRLA-certified peer tutors.
