BMEN Scholars Program
This year's BMEN Scholars Program is a new initiative that focuses on developing students' confidence in conducting and presenting undergraduate research at Virginia Tech. Further, this program will more directly support students in developing a plan that promotes securing other internships, study abroad opportunities, and graduate school. Additionally, this program provides opportunities for mentorship and scholarship awards. Below are two possibilities for students to engage this fall:
The Wayne Scales Scholarship and Undergraduate Research Symposium
Exceptional black male students who have completed undergraduate research projects and other related training programs will be able to present their works in an undergraduate research symposium embedded in the 9th Annual Uplifting Black Men Conference in February. Students who complete the preparation and presentation process will receive a scholarship and campus-wide recognition as BMEN scholars.
BMEN Student Ambassadors
As part of BMEN's vision to expose you to ongoing undergraduate research opportunities and build your confidence in securing internships, co-ops, and study abroad opportunities, BMEN is seeking to hire student ambassadors who provide peer mentoring and coaching, guiding them through the BMEN Scholars program journey. Student ambassadors will be recruited by BMEN's coordinator and graduate assistant and later receive professional development training. We also prefer students familiar with various campus resources. Thus we are hiring only sophomore, junior, and senior students. If you are an enthusiastic student leader, work-study eligible, and love peer mentorship, submit your application form.
