Academic Coaching

Struggling with time management, test prep, or staying focused? You're not alone.
Maybe you’ve underestimated how long an assignment would take. Maybe you’ve crammed the night before a test or finished a reading without remembering a word of it. That’s where academic coaching comes in.
Through a supportive, one-on-one partnership, coaches help you strengthen skills like goal setting, time management, note taking, reading strategies, test preparation, and more. Whether you’re navigating online classes or trying to overcome procrastination, coaching can meet you where you are.
We offer both peer and professional coaching, and appointments are easy to book through Navigate. For a quick boost of strategies and tips, check out our Seminar Series for Academic Success—a great option if you prefer learning in a group.
Not sure which is right for you? Seminars offer a broad overview of key topics, while coaching is ideal for digging into your individual challenges and goals.
Scheduling
Coaching sessions are approximately 25-30 minutes in length. Peer Academic Coaches are available in fall and spring semesters while Professional Academic Coaches are available year-round. Appointments are offered in-person or virtually through Zoom.
We recommend on-going visits for more support and higher accountability. If you would like weekly appointments, you are welcome to schedule them yourself through Navigate. You will be able to view three weeks at a time.
To request disability accommodations, please email studentsuccess@vt.edu at least ten days in advance.
Cancelling appointments
Please cancel unneeded appointments through Navigate at least 24 hours in advance. Here's How to Cancel (PDF)
No show policy
Students who do not show up or cancel at the last minute (within four hours) three or more times in a semester can be temporarily banned from making appointments.
