Latanya Walker

Assistant Director

Latanya Walker serves as Assistant Director, focusing on the Presidential Scholars initiative and the Strada Grant program. This involves supporting the academic and professional development of Virginia Tech’s participating students, including coordinating workshops, enrichment activities, internships, research opportunities, and other events to prepare students for career success.

Previous roles include Family Service Worker with NRCA Shawsville Head Start, Undergraduate Advisor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech, Counselor and Assistant Director of Virginia Tech Upward Bound, and Director of Alumni Relations for Diversity and Inclusion. Walker’s work is informed by a deep commitment to diversity and inclusion, and she believes in the importance of advocacy, collaboration and service, in pursuit of a stronger and more inclusive society.

Walker holds a B.S. in Family and Child Development from Virginia Tech (’91), and an M.S. in Counseling and Human Development and School Counseling, from Radford University (’97). Currently Walker proudly serves on the board of the historic Christiansburg Institute, established after the Civil War to educate African Americans across the region, commonwealth, and nation.

In her free time, Latanya’s hobbies include cooking, baking, music, Hokie football and basketball, movies, television, and traveling.
